IPMG Code of Ethics 2017
International Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Group (IPMG), is a non-profit, non-governmental organization representing 25 international research-based pharmaceutical companies operating in Indonesia, has been steadfast in its commitment to providing the public with safe, high quality and efficacious medicines and the healthcare community with adequate information about the value and potential risks of their products.

All IPMG members are fully committed to supporting the medical community in a scientific manner and complying with respective laws and regulations.

In our continuous effort in creating a level playing field in the Indonesian pharmaceutical industry as well as ensuring a uniform interpretation of the Code, the Ethical Practices Sub-Committee, after careful considerations, has revised several articles and points in IPMG Code of Pharmaceutical Ethical Practices in Indonesia issued in June 2015. This revision is necessary to ensure full alignment with the new decree of Ministry of Health regarding sponsorship, International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) Code of Practices, as well as the “Mexico City Principles for Voluntary Codes of Business Ethics in the Biopharmaceutical Sector”.

IPMG has been adopting stringent practices and taking compliance measures over the past years. These standard practices should apply to all IPMG member companies.

We believe that the IPMG Code of Ethics, effective as of May 1, 2017, will improve health care services and benefit patients in Indonesia.

Q: Does the Code regulate communications with the public?

A: No. The Code covers interactions with healthcare professionals and the promotion of pharmaceutical products. Where direct promotion to the public is allowed, this is covered by other laws, regulations and/or relevant codes of practice. All IPMG member companies should of course, comply with these laws, regulations and/or codes.

Q: To whom does the Code apply?

A: The Code applies to IPMG member companies. Pharmaceutical companies that are not members of IPMG fall outside the reach of the Code. IPMG encourages such companies -- and other organizations marketing healthcare products or services to healthcare professionals -- to follow ethical promotion standards similar to those set forth in the Code.

Q: Why does the Code not cover public disease awareness campaigns?

A: The Code covers interactions with healthcare professionals and the promotion of pharmaceutical products. A public disease awareness campaign targeted at the public must not promote specific pharmaceutical products.
